Niekoniecznie. W przypadku RAID na kontrolerze Intela istnieje możliwość utworzenia RAID-a z poziomu systemu operacyjnego przy pomocy Intel Matrix Storage Console. W takim przypadku wystarczy włączyć w BIOS-ie RAID, uruchomić system z jednego dysku z backupem, drugi dysk może być pusty, a potem utworzyć wolumen RAID z istniejących dysków.
