How do I convert BoardView .fz files to other formats? For example, DXF.
My goal is to know the exact locations of the connectors on the motherboard (I do modding and have my own project). I downloaded a BoardView .fz file and now I'd like to convert it to... other formats. So I can overlay it on a SolidWorks board sketch. No, I don't use CircuitWorks. I work in the standard SolidWorks 3D environment.
Ideally, I'd like to convert this BoardView to a sketch (lines and points), or at least a drawing, and then overlay the drawing on the sketch. If necessary, I'll learn CircuitWorks; this module supports IDF (2.0, 3.0, 4.0), PADS ASCII (.asc), and ProStep EDMD formats.

What are these BoardView .fz files anyway? How are they created, and where do they come from? Yes, I understand that engineers design things)) but could you give more details?

FZ boardview file format is a proprietary of ASUSTeK Computer, Inc. It is actually an RC6 and gzip encoded text created by Asus' CAM/CAD proprietary software which is not available to public although some viewers are (eg. PCBRepairTool: post45023.html#p45023). This viewer, however, does only work with older files and is not compatible with newer designs. I don't think there are any 100% working converters available for this file format, however, here you can find more information about the matter you are trying to cope with: https://github.com/OpenBoardView/OpenBo ... /issues/10
