  1. Topic title should contain: the device's manufacturer, full model and the brief description of problem.
  2. Topic message should contain: the PCB marking code (required in case of hardware repairs), an extended description of problem, things you have checked/replaced/measured, your conclusions and the question. If you are not able to find the PCB marking code, please read THIS TOPIC. If you still cannot locate the PCB markings, please upload a clean, both-side photos of the mainboard - it is required to remove any films, modules or brackets possibly covering these markings.
  3. Before posting a new topic please read all topics in TRAININGS subforum and make a preliminary diagnostic based on the content of those trainings.
  4. Uploading of any complete schematics, BIOS / firmware files or any other kind of documentation, or linking to 3rd party websites with such files, is STRICTLY PROHIBITED. You can only upload the small portion of documentation or, link to BIOS file on UNVERIFIED BIOS FILES subforum, which simplifies the diagnostics/repair. You are not allowed to upload more then one complete page of instruction/schematic per single topic. The file you upload must not contain any watermarks, "confidential" markings, links or email addresses and cannot be password-protected.
  5. It is only permitted to describe one faulty device per single topic - you should always open a new topic for each subsequent device.
  6. Requesting of the full schematics, BoardView files, BIOS files or any other kind of documentation is NOT ALLOWED in this subforum. If you need to ask for any of these, you should open a new topic in DOCUMENTATION/BIOS REQUEST subforum.

#1 Faulty capacitor in Lenovo Ideapad 330S-15IKB (Mobo: 330S_KBL_MB_V07)

Hello,
Motherboard Information (330S-KBL-MB-V07, Rev.MP, P/N: 431204230020).
I have found faulty ceramic capacitor in Lenovo Ideapad 330S-15IKB (circled
area). It is raw of 3 (I have removed faulty one and short on the
motherboard has gone). To find the value of component I did remove 2 other
ones to measure. I am looking for advice because the value of measured
capacitors was around 20 microfarads. Is this special value/size used by
Lenovo ? I can't find any ceramic ones (0805 size) with 20 microfarads
value to buy. Capacitor is working in 20V line and I would expect to buy
one for higher nominal voltage (50V - to make sure will handle job with
easy).
Thank you in advance for your help/advice.
Regards,
Rafal S.

If you ask for the capacitor, which is already removed off the logic board, it is C864 = 10uF/25V (0805 footprint). Available in Farnell: https://uk.farnell.com/murata/grm21br61 ... dp/2611941
The middle capacitor (C866) is 22uF/25V, and the right hand side one (C865) is the same as C864 = 10uF/25V.

Thank you for your help. I have ordered capacitor from Farnell website (it was qty.5 minimum order).
I will know which website to go to from now on. I appreciate it.
C864 was the faulty one. When I have removed C866 and C865 to measure (both did show around 20µF).
Would you advice to change C865 to 10µF one ?
Could Lenovo alter their design during assembly and capacitor is different (22µF used in place of 10µF) ?

I think you should leave C865 as is. Sometimes manufacturers issue a specific ECN (Engineer's Change Notice), which may change the values of components - but I'm not sure if this is the case here, because I do not work for Lenovo. Please also note that some components have a different values because of their specified tolerance (in case of these capacitors there is a 20% of capacity tolerance which means that for a 10uF nominal value you can read the range from 8uF to 12uF, which is quite normal). The other thing is that some cheap multimeters can have a significant measurement deviation (it especially happens on uF capacitance ranges) and you will get quite a huge difference in measured values comparing to the original value.
